There's a lot of people that don't belong here.

Like Ray. Barry. Waverly. Caitlin. Pretty sure I've seen some kids here, too.

There's something wrong with this place.

Something wrong with a place called Penance?

[all sarcasm aside...]

This kid's special. Ray and Barry cry when they accidentally step on a ladybug. Diogo was raised to be a weapon.

I think he's growing an attachment to me.

[She laughs.] I know. But you would think the people here would deserve to be here.

Like Proto. Sort of.

Too innocent to belong here.

We need to get them out. Especially Ray and Barry. But we'll add this Diogo to that list, okay?

Please. If everyone got what they deserved, life would have been the time to do it. You were dealt a crap hand from the beginning and death isn't doing you any favors either.

[An exhale. And there's a lot of emotion bottled up in that one breath]

Well, just means religion got it all wrong, too.

We'll get it taken care of, I promise.

You have to know I wasn't going to just let everyone rot down here. It's just been difficult to figure this place out. Our usual ways did nothing. Then Barbas happened.

You don't need to pretend to reassure me, Sara. I know we're fighting an uphill battle.

Yeah. I'm making a few connections. Wilderness types of people, because I've never gone willingly camping in my life. And I might have encouraged Barry to scout out the place, run to the boundaries of where he could see.

Barbas is a temporary stop-gap; an irritation. If he's only been in power a few months and people are already this pissed about him, how long can he hope to hold onto power? He's already doing his little show trials at dinnertime.

I'm not pretending.

But if you ever want to really go out there and camp, just let me know.

I know that. I think we all know that. I think Barbas is the only one who doesn't realize he's not permanent here.

I'm not itching to make the acquaintence of whatever's out there overnight just yet.

Been thinking about how we could hasten that realization. Did you know there's a library within spitting distance?

And you ever think maybe the key to learning more ABOUT this place and escaping it could be hidden in one of a trillion books inside that library?

Like I told Mick. Books aren't just for burning.

Or Nate's - [She stops. Even nearly a year later she's still thinking of her entire crew.]

Didn't realize we left research up to one guy. I'll stay in my lane from now on and only steal things, how's that?

So are you reading them?

No, but you don't have to compare me to Raymond, of all people.

Might be. I'm also curious why there's an old church out in the middle of Hell, of all places.

Seems like holy ground to me. Somewhere a demon wouldn't want to go.

Not my fault you both read.

Doesn't have to be holy. Pretty sure any church down here is probably desecrated. A bunch of people made a trek out there not that long after I first got here.

You could probably ask around about what they found out there.

Now you're starting to sound like Mick.

You spend that much time on a time ship with him and try not to ever sound like him.

[She's quiet for a second.]

That might be harder. I'm trying to remember if I knew anyone that went out there at the time that's still here.

And yet he actually wrote a book.

Mmn. I haven't...done any public posting yet. Mostly stuck to one-on-one conversations. Something tells me Barbas likes to keep tabs.

[Sara laughs to that. If she hadn't just found out about that, she could point out to Snart he actually wrote several. Later.]

He did. I'm still not going to read it. [Until someone gets her the audio books and a treadmill, at least.]

You could probably ask quietly person to person. Eventually you'll find someone that either went, or knows someone that did.

I could ask Wynonna for you. [At least, she's pretty sure Wynonna's been in Hell as long as she's been.]

I picked my copy up from Ray. It's...definitely Mick in depth.

Might as well. I'll reach out to this Constantine everyone's been bugging me about.

[PAUSE. HUGE PAUSE. Does she really want Leonard and John meeting?]

[Still pausing.] I didn't ask if John had gone out there, but it's his sort of thing. You should ask him.

[Of all of the things her and Constantine had talked about, the expedition outside the gate was not one of them.]

Something I should know about him?

No. Just think you two might get along really well. Not sure why I didn't think of that before.
