[That stings. When she replies, her voice is a little softer. After what happened, she understands (she thinks she does), even if she doesn't like it.]

Okay. Here, then.

[He knows they need to talk about-- all of that. But that hadn't been Sara, but what he's become? That's definitely all him.]

I did something stupid, Sara. Something I can't undo.

[Okay, that would make her laugh, if Ray didn't seem so upset, if she didn't feel so guilty.]

Because the rest of us haven't done stupid things? [Lilith.]

What did you do, Ray?

I let my husband turn me into a vampire?

[That would be a hilarious thing to say if it wasn't... you know, the truth.

And he wasn't freaking out over the fact his entire life has changed.]

It was during the-- school stuff. I came home in really bad shape and it felt like the solution at the time.

[And now she feels extra worse. Crap.]

Ray?! They're already trying to turn us into demons. Turning into a vampire on top of it?

I'm going over.

I know! I just...

Wait, Sara! I just said vampire. As in the blood drinking kind!

[And he's been trying to avoid going around-- well, anybody.]

What's your point?

[After everything they've fought, and being in Hell? Vampire doesn't scare her. Besides, it's Ray.]

I'm going.

Action!

[He knows arguing with Sara when she's set her mind to something probably-- isn't going to get him very far.

Besides, it'd be nice to see someone familiar.]

... Okay. I'm at the suite.

[His shared suite. He lets out a sigh.]

See you soon, Sara.

[And he will. Whenever she gets to the door, he'll go and open it for her.]

[She doesn't respond further, just shows up at his door. When he opens it, she hugs him.]

You thought, what? Being a vampire would keep me away?

[He's reluctant to hug her back. Not because of Sara, but because he's not sure how much he trusts himself at the moment, even if she apparently has a lot in him to hug him the way she does.

But he does return it carefully after a moment.]

I just-- don't want to slip up and hurt you. This is all really new to me.

[captaincanary]

[She gives him a pointed look.] I'd kick your ass first.

You're not going to hurt me.

[There's a slight smile at that before he just shakes his head.] You're probably right.

[Sara wouldn't go down without a fight at least.]

C'mon. We can go sit, if you want.

[captaincanary]

Besides [she leans her head against his shoulder] I still need to apologize to you.

So you don't get to bite me before that.

[She nods her head and starts leading him to the couch. Just pretend it wasn't his suggestion.]

You don't have to.

[Apologize, that is. It's not needed.]

You were brainwashed. [He sits down when they reach the couch.]

I'm also not going to bite you.

[captaincanary]

I need to. [Sara insists.]

So I'm sorry. I don't care if I was brainwashed. [She plops down next to him, and actually leans on him. It's more contact than usual, but considering the situation, it feels appropriate. Plus, she feels it'll make Ray feel more confident about his ability to hold back.]

I'm still sorry you ended up hurt like that. That's the sort of thing I would usually protect you from.

And we already covered that. You try, I'll have to kick your butt.

I'm alright now, Sara. Doc made sure of that. [And he'll be more resilient in general too... which probably still doesn't excuse his decision, but. It's done now.

He's a little reluctant, but he slides his arm around her, pulls her in when she leans in. He's not all that warm anymore, but hopefully she doesn't mind.]

You don't have to protect me. I'm just sorry I couldn't reach you, Sara. I wish I'd have tried harder.

[Maybe he still couldn't have done anything, but...]

I can live off what's available in the kitchens, so I don't think I have to bite anyone. Just in case you were worried.

I don't have to. [She repeats that, tone clipped.] I want to. [Because Ray deserves someone looking out for his back.]

And maybe I could have protected you from this. [She turns to look him right in the eyes.] Are you seriously blaming yourself for what happened? [Not a surprise. She should have seen this coming, and Sara knows it.]

[He mentions biting and she shrugs that off.] I wasn't worried. If you need to bite someone, you have me. [Stated with all of the tone like she's stating a fact of life, nothing more.]

Protected me from what, Sara? [Everything that's happened has happened to all of them, minus the vampire thing.

But even that, it was because they weren't in their right minds and they should have been.] I feel like I could have done better.

[Then again, he always feels like that, doesn't he?]

Sara-- [The offer has him shaking his head.] I wouldn't want to risk hurting you. Doc's... helping me out. He's showing me the ropes.

[captaincanary]

From myself. [She's still not okay with that.]

Are you kidding me? You did everything short of knock me over the head. Which, would have just been worse for you. So.... [She settles next to him at that realization.] I'm glad you didn't.

[She rolls her eyes at Ray, then gives him a leveled glare.]

You're not going to hurt me by taking a little blood. Promise me, if things go bad, you'll come to me before they get worse. And you really do something you're going to regret.

[When Sara leans in, Ray moves to slide an arm around her. For her comfort or his, he's not entirely sure.] It's over with now, Sara. I don't need an apology for what this place made you do.

[she wouldn't have done it if she'd been in her right mind, he knows that.]

They'd have to go really bad, but... okay, Sara. You know that I'll come find you.

[captaincanary]

I still gave it, because I should. [It can be for the comfort of them both.]

[She does calm to his agreement. It would be like Ray to pull something dumb and noble, but it's also against his nature to go against what he says he'll do.]

Captain's orders. [She throws that one last bit out with a finger to his face, then nearly curls up. He's warm.]

Is it okay if I take a nap? Haven't slept much lately.

[He smiles at the Captain's orders remark, rubbing a hand over her shoulder affectionately. Little does he know that he won't... exactly get a chance to find her when things get bad in the future, but at least for right now? He means what he says.]

Of course you can take a nap. [He shifts a little bit so they can both settle in a little more comfortably.]

[captaincanary]

[She smiles back, assured. She's not exactly going to hold the future dinner against him, considering how poorly everything went in general. And it wouldn't be his fault.]

Good.

[She stops and looks at him again.] Do you need sleep as a vampire?

[Suddenly, Sara realizes she has a an actual vampire to ask vampire related questions to, ending horror movie myths for good.]

I still sleep, Sara. As for how much of it I need... I guess we'll see next time I get wrapped up in a project and forget.

[... not that Ray isn't known for pushing himself past exhaustion when that happens anyway, so it might not be the best thing to go by.]

Also, if you uninvite me, apparently I can't enter your space according to Doc. And I need an invitation to come in.
